Hustopeče will see last year's women's final

10/01/2024

The main star of the women's competition this year will be world number three Iryna Geraschenko from Ukraine, who holds a personal best of 200 cm. Iryna knows Hustopeče well from her previous competitions and can boast a 4th place at the 2022 World Championships and the 2021 Olympic Games. At last year's World Championships in Budapest, this world's high jump icon finished in 5th place. Last year, in her sixth start in Hustopeče, she ended up second with an excellent performance of 197 cm. Although Iryna always manages to jump very high in Hustopeče, she has never won a competition here. She would like to change that this year.

The other participant of the women's competition, British athlete Morgan Lake, did not miss the podium even once in her five starts in Hustopeče. She won twice and placed 3rd three times. Last year, she put on an amazing show here, when she set not only her personal best but also the British national record with her second victory here at 199 cm. Thus it is obvious that this world number six wants to attack the two metres in Hustopeče.

Among the most followed competitors of this year's Hustopečské Skákání will surely be the popular American high jumper Inika McPherson. She is famous not only for her quality performances over high bar, but also for her distinctive tattoos all over her body. She will be competing in Hustopeče for the first time after a health break last year. Among her greatest achievements is seventh place from the 2018 World Indoor Championships, her personal best is an impressive 196 cm.

The best Slovenian high jumper Lia Apostolovski will also make her Hustopeče debut this year. The bronze medallist at the 2021 U23 European Championships and the seventh woman at the 2022 Munich European Championships definitely made her way into the world's top rankings last year. She was ninth in the World Championships final, was a regular in the Diamond League and pushed her personal best to 195 cm. She is ranked 11th in the world rankings. On the other hand, Ukrainian high jumper Yuliya Chumachenko will be seen in Hustopeče for the sixth time. Her best performance here was last year, when she finished seventh. The best performance of the 2019 Universiade winner is 194 cm..
