The world champion from Australia and last year's winner Woo will come to Skákání 2023
A great line-up of high jumpers, full of well-known names, was obtained for the 23rd year of the international high jump competition Hustopečské skákání Agrotec 2023. At the beginning of February, a number of well-known athletes will come to Hustopeče Sports Hall, led by the current world champion Eugene Eleanor Patterson from Australia and last year's winner of the Hustopeče meeting and world number one Korean Sanghyeok Woo. The two-day meeting (February 2nd and 4th, 2023) will also include competitions for children, youth and additional competitions for men and women.
Hustopečské skákání Agrotec is one of the most important sports event in the south of Moravia, Czechia and regularly ranks among the TOP 10 best specialized meetings in the world. "This year it advanced to the World Indoor Tour - Silver meeting category, which is the highest possible award for this type of competition in the world," told us race manager Andrea Cejnková, who is also in charge of contact with competitors. The main star of the women's competition, Eleeanor Patterson from Australia, had a great last season. She won the WC 2022 in a new personal best of 202 cm and beat the world number one Mahuchikh from Ukraine. She was second at the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade and she also ended up fifth at the last Olympics in Japan. Her biggest rival could be world number three Ukrainian Iryna Geraschenko, who also holds a personal record of 200 cm. Iryna knows Hustopeče very well from her previous starts. Her greatest achievements from recent years are 4th place at the 2022 World Championship and 2021 Olympic Games. At the 2022 Indoor World Championship, this amzing high jumper was fifth. Another woman coming to Hustopeče, Marija Vukovič, knows this event very well. This high jumper from Montenegro won her first senior medal - silver at this year's EC in Munich. The Czech athletes will be represented once again by Michaela Hrubá, who has announced her transfer to the triple jumpers, but in Hustopeče she will return to her former successful discipline.
The men's competition will also be interesting. The starting list is led by world number one and last year's winner of Skákání Sanghyeok Woo from South Korea, who has his absolute personal record of 236 cm from Hustopeče. In 2022, he won the World Indoor Championship and was second at the World Championship in Eugene, USA. Another competitor, Hamisch Kerr from New Zealand, is ranked 7th in the world charts and won a bronze medal in 2022 Indoor WC. After a one-year break due to injury, Brandon Starc from Australia, who finished 5th at the 2021 Olympics, sixth at the 2019 WC and can also be proud about his victory in the Diamond League final, is returning to the high jump sector. Two other athletes from the top ten in the world rankings have also promised to compete in Hustopeče, medalist from the World Cup and European Championship Andriy Protsenko from Ukraine (PB 240 cm) and finalist of the last two World Championships Luis Zayas (PB 233 cm) from Cuba.
The meeting will begin on Thursday, February 2nd, with student competitions, where we will keep our fingers crossed especially for local competitors from the athletics club TJ Agrotec Hustopeče. A day later, young athletes from Hustopeče will undergo a group training with world-class high jumpers, which is a great motivation for them in their sports life. And on Saturday, our current high jumpers Nikola Seďová, Adriana Dlapalová and, above all, Vojtěch Homola, who was recently included in the Czech national team, will experience a big junior premiere.
