World class jumpers are coming

World class jumpers will once again jump at Hustopečské skákání

It will be the 18th chapter in the book of the Hustopečské skákání, a high jump meeting in Hustopeče that proves time and again that it is indeed the best indoor high jump event in the Czech Republic. “Even today, the final battle between Tamberi, Italia and Baker, UK is fresh in our minds. It was a wonderful sight which meant not only that the standing record of 238 cm was met, but also the two best performances in the world.” Says Zbyněk Háder, the director of Hustopečské skákání. And such a performance is exactly what the organization team strives for this year as well, on 2nd and 4th February.

This year we will once more remember the Olympic champion Milena Hübnerová-Rezková while watching the world champions battle for the ultimate gold. The first confirmed jumper is thus none other than the silver medalist from the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Mirela Demirevu from Bulgaria. Her results and form were incredible in 2016, her best being at 197 cm. Her silver medal from Rio 2016 and from the European Championship 2016 in Amsterdam come as no surprise. Chris Baker returns to Hustopeče to defend his silver, he was bronze in the European Championship and 8th place in the Indoor World Championship 2016. We will be seing some of the best Czech jumpers as well, Jaroslav Bába has already confirmed which no doubt pleased his formidable fan club. “We are still in the process of securing more jumpers, so the final start list is still in progress. We do believe that this year will be just as great of a show as last year.” Says Jan Janků, Jr., one of the meeting’s managers.

However, great stars and world champions is not the only thing the Hustopečské skákání is about, young talents will show off as well. This Thursday, the 2nd of January, will host the younger categories U13-U15, presenting the regional competitions. We hope to see not only fantastic out-of-town talents, but also some of our own. B categories will accompany the younger jumpers, ensuring thus a great show. “We were quite surprised that a lot of foreign nationalities showed interest. And not only from Europe, but from countries as far as Qatar, Bahrain or Eritrea. Great Britain and Slovakia are also sending representatives; it will be something to see.” added Zbyněk Háder.
