Hrubá and Tamberi are aiming at records

11.2.2016

The 17th high jump meeting Hustopečské skákání Agrotec 2016 with music is as of today only hours away. The startlist of tomorrow’s meeting is being updated. The south Moravian region will host contestants from 16 countries, 4 different continents. This year, the meeting will be held as a Milena Hübnerová memorial, in memory of the Czech high jump champion from Mexico Championship in 1968.

The two-day meeting will be streamed at www.hustopecskeskakani.cz both in video and text form to ensure a live and up-to-date stream of information.

Beitia hurt, replaced by the winner of Banskobystrická laťka

Sad news arrived from Spain. One of the greatest stars of Hustopečské skákání, Ruth Beitia, has injured her Achilles tendon during her training and had to cancel her participation in tomorrow’s meeting at the last minute. Doreen Amata from Nigeria, the winner of Banskobystrická laťka and one of the best jumpers from Africa, has confirmed her participation in tomorrow’s high jump race. "Doreen is in superb form this year. She won in Banská Bystrica with 193 cm and confirmed her form in Třinec when clearing the 190 cm once more." says the director of Hustopečské skákání Zbyněk Háder. Amata will be a formidable opponent to our current contestants Lavern Spencer (St. Lucia, PB 198 cm), Michaela Hrubá (Czech Republic, PB 194 cm), Nadezda Dusanova (Uzbekistan, PB 198 cm), Iryna Geraschenko (Ukraine, PB 195 cm) or Burcu Ayhan (Turkey, PB 194 cm).

Michaela Hrubá jumps in Hustopeče for the first time

One of the wild cards in Hustopečské skákání will be the Czech high jump talent Michaela Hrubá. She placed 3rd in Banská Bystrica with 191 cm and won the Beskydská laťka with 194 cm, thus breaking the junior record. "I have never been to Hustopeče, it will be my first time there. I heard that the bar goes quite high there, so I hope it will be a good race. I"m looking forward to it and if possible, I would love to attack the Czech junior record once more." said Hrubá, trained by Alena Nezdařilová. Another Czech jumper to compete in Hustopeče, Oldřiška Marešová, will indeed come to jump, but with a recent Achilles tendon injury opts for the Women B category. Strachová, Galusková, Dunajská, Michlíková and Kažimirová will all get their chance to compete against the very best.

Tamberi aims to win for the 3rd time and break the record

Two starts and two wins for the Italian jumper Gianmarco Tamberi. In Banská Bystrica Tamberi cleared 235 cm and in Třinec 233 cm. The same goes for the second Italian jumper in Hustopeče, as far as numbers go, Marco Fassinotti cleared 235 cm in Banská Bystrica and 233 cm in Birmingham. Their duel should be the top of Saturday"s evening. Tamberi and the event"s organizers also agreed on a bonus, should he surpass the meeting record, currently at 238 cm and held by Ivan Uchov. "I feel great and I"m looking forward to jumping in Hustopeče. I want to do my best and I even aim at the meeting record!" said Tamberi.

The third Italian jumper to complement this energetic duo will be Silvano Chesani (PB 234 cm), third at Hustopečské skákání 2015 and silver in the European Indoor Championship in Prague. Joining them will be our Czech medalist Jaroslav Bába (PB 237 cm), world champion from Tegu 2011 Jesse Williams (PB 237 cm) from America, bronze from the 2011 World Championship in Tegu Trevor Barry (PB 232 cm) from Bahamas, bronze from the 2009 World Championship Sylwester Bednarek (PB 232 cm) from Poland, and medalist from both World and European championships Kyriakos Ioannou (PB 235 cm) from Cyprus. The newest addition to our startlist will be Chris Baker from Great Britain, this year he reached 227 cm, and Ali Mohd Idriss from Sudan, silver from Brněnská laťka.

The legendary Sjöberg as an ambassador

It is not only our startlist that is steaming with medalists and champions from both World and European Championships. This year, Patrik Sjöberg will come to Hustopeče. He is the European high jump record holder, triple Olympic medalist and World and European champion from Sweden. Another ambassador for the Hustopečské skákání will be the world champion in triple jump Šárká Kašpárková, silver from Indoor World Championship in Maebashi Zuzana Hlavoňová, and silver from the European Championship in Helsinki Tomáš Janků. Several honorary guests will also come to see the meeting. Olympic champion from Nagano hockey-player Martin Procházka, Olympic champion from Tokyo cyclist Jiří Daler, Olympic medalists and rowers the Svojanovský brothers, world champion medalist Táňa Kocembová-Netoličková, silver from the European Indoor Championship Radek Juška, born just outside of Hustopeče, in Starovičky. World champions in ice hockey František Pospíšil and Josef Horešovský are also attending. If all these stars were to count all their medals from European, World and Olympic Championships, the total would be well over fifty.
