Official greeting by the Mayor of Hustopeče

23.1.2015

The mayor of Hustopeče Hana Potměšilová officially greeted Jesse Williams, James Harris and the meeting’s ambassador Šárka Kašpárková in the city ceremonial hall. There they were then presented with almonds and almond brandy, emblematic gifts from Hustopeče, and informed about our city. The high jumpers also had the chance to taste our local wine.

Jesse Williams came to Hustopeče from Oregon - west USA, which means traveling through the States and then across the ocean to Europe. “I spent three days in Netherlands already, so I’m back on my feet now.” Said Williams. Due to his feet injury he had to retire for the last two seasons, but he is now back in the game, the 2015 Hustopečské skákání is his second meeting here. “I was here two years ago, but that did not go very well because of my leg. I am all good now, ready to enjoy and jump as high as I can.” Said the 2011 World Champion.

James Harris also promised his best, he is the only athlete excelling both in high jump and relays. He can jump as high as 232 cm and is the World Champion in 4x400 m relay. “I chose high jump for this season, that’s the discipline I want to focus on. I’m too tall for indoor relays. I would also like to qualify for the World Championship in Beijing this summer. I think running boosted my stamina, perhaps I will hold on longer than other jumpers” said Harris. He came to Hustopeče from Florida, and was pleased with the mild winter we are having right now.

Šárka Kašpárková also gave us a little insight on her thoughts about the current startlist. “I think this year’s competition will be stiff. There are so many amazing jumpers, it’s hard to even guess the winner.”
